We're thinking of taking dd & ds to north wales in june. Interested to know what other peoples experiences of this area are.

No.

Nor in January, February, March etc etc etc...

Milge · 18/01/2006 11:54

No. I wouldn't recommend Rhyl at any time of the year.

NomDePlume · 18/01/2006 11:55

I was going to put the very same thing, Milge.

justmummy · 18/01/2006 11:56

Can i ask why?

OP posts:
catgirl · 18/01/2006 11:56

not Rhyl, but other parts of North Wales are v.v. nice. (apologies to anyone who lives in Rhyl!)

Milge · 18/01/2006 11:57

Huge drugs problem, ASBO capital of Wales, dirty water and it rains all the time.

tiredemma · 18/01/2006 12:01

deganwy is nice, and abergele.

rhyl reminds me of horrific caravan holiday's every year, and crossing a railway track to get to the beach.

NomDePlume · 18/01/2006 12:02

tiredemma got it in one. Possibly the most depressing 'holiday resort' there has ever been

Tinker · 18/01/2006 12:04

Llandudno and Conway also nice.

justmummy · 18/01/2006 12:07

Ok, thanks. Sounds like we'll be thinking again. We wanted to try somewhere different but not too far. We live in cornwall - have holidayed in somerset, dorset and isle of wight. Think we'll maybe go back to dorset again.

Wales is beautiful, but that bit of North Wales really isn't the best. Pembrokeshire (West Wales) is very beautiful, lovely beaches too.

mummytosteven · 18/01/2006 12:18

Rhyl is a bit like Blackpool but without the nightlife/trams etc. Llandudno much nicer. Pembrokeshire is also fab - Tenby/St.Davids etc.

NomDePlume · 18/01/2006 12:19

Saundersfoot (also Pembrokeshire) is lovely too

spacecadet · 18/01/2006 12:22

having come from north wales, i can honestly say i would not recommend rhyl ever, not if it were the last place on earth. llandudno, abergele, etc much nicer, as is criccieth down on the lleyn peninsula.

spacecadet · 18/01/2006 12:22

my mum lives in deganwy, which is also lovely.

tiredemma · 18/01/2006 12:26

agree with tinker, conway is lovely.

but would echo other people, pembrokshire is beautiful.

I think that you would be devastated coming from somewhere as lovely as cornwall, to find your self "holidaying" ( and i use that term loosely) in Rhyl.

I was subjected to years of holidaying there as a child and can vividly remember it as not quite the end of the world..... but you can see it from there.

Milge · 18/01/2006 13:14

If you are coming from Cornwall, try either the Gower peninsula near Swansea, or farther west - Pembrokeshire/Ceredigion. V similar dramatic coastline to Cornwall. Lots of places in North Wales are worth a visit. Rhyl isn't one of them!

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 13:18

I live in North Wales and it's beautiful but Rhyl is dire ..it's like blackpool only much much much grottier

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 13:19

Anglesey has lots of nice places as does the llyn peninsula ..aberdaron for example, or near hell's mouth

daisy1999 · 18/01/2006 13:19

no we went - not impressed - used it as a base to explore other areas in the end.

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 13:49

Snowdonia is gorgeous too... and the denbighshire vales ... newborough beach on anglesey

JenumGeranium · 18/01/2006 13:51

I would have to recommend Anglesey too! Had many a great childhood holiday on the lovely Isle!

JenumGeranium · 18/01/2006 13:52
