Booked flights for Easter: Porto Portugal with DH for port drinking and 5 & 7 yr old who want swimming & buffet resturants - help?!

This is my first day on Mumsnet so apologies if I'm doing it all wrong but I am fairly desperate having spontaneously booked flights to Porto for DH's significant birthday with kids in tow. They will not be impressed by port caves / tasting / bridge cruises - all of which I plan to do but need something to make it enjoyable for them too. They like anything non cultural and highlights are usually serve-yourself-drinks machines (water dispensers will do if we're desperate), late nights, eating (DD will do new/strange, DS will not unless very hungry, which could be useful), swimming/beaches and anything that doesn't last too long. Yipee, this should be easy then.

First problem is where to stay. Foz looked good as close to Porto and on beach but not sure about interconnecting room situation in hotel? Are there any other close resorts where you can easily train it into Porto? Can anyone offer any help, ideas, bearing in mind that cancelling flights is not an option as booked with Ryannair..........

Please put me out of my mysery and tell me that I have not completely lost it and it is possible to combine all these ridiculous criteria and for everyone to have a good time. All help & reality-check drugs greatfully received.

PS I have no idea how to pick up replies. Am at work tomorrow, concentrating on big business deals (ha, ha) so if I don't reply or say thank you, its not because I'm ignorant, its just that I can't log in and the thought of trying to do this via my antiquated phone is giving me palpitations.
