Guernsey for the Easter break.

Can anyone offer me some advice/info please about Guernsey. We are planning on going there with my running club for the Easter break, taking DS (nealry 5 by then) and DD (just 1).

We'll have our morning taken up with the running challenge on the island (me running and DH and the children cheering me on I hope) but what else can we do for the rest of the time please?

Also, can anyone recommend car hire please? I need a very reputable company as I want top class car seats for the children.

TIA

We went to Guernsey last summer and do you know what my kids (dd who was 8 and ds of 2)still keep on about? The Telephone Museum
They loved it. Quite small but loads of stuff to try out. Free to get in.
Will get out the photo album to try and jog the memory.

We hired a car from Sarnia and it was brand new. The car seat was better than ours (newer and cleaner anyway!)

thanks Posey. Sorry to sound dim but who/what are Sarnia? A search on google has thrown up a Sarnia but in Canada!!

Sorry Sarnia was the name of the car hire company, booked for us by the hotel we stayed in but with an office/pick up place at the airport.
Sarnia, BTW, is the name the Romans gave to Guernsey (it bugged us for ages on holiday as we kept seeing Sarnia this and that!)

mckenzie · 17/01/2006 21:44

thanks Posey. Found them now.

how weird i'm just chatting to my brother who lives there!

mckenzie · 17/01/2006 21:49

please ask him what the weather is normally like in April. And has he heard of the Vazon Bay appartments please?

OP posts:
katzg · 17/01/2006 21:52

weather in April - wet and windy
Vazon Bay Apt - clean and bright but basic

there is a fab tea room in Vazon bay that does the yummiest cakes

katzg · 17/01/2006 21:52

he says April here is same as uk but about 3 degress warmer than london

katzg · 17/01/2006 21:53

vazon is the best beach for children, although swimming will be out!

mckenzie · 17/01/2006 21:54

thansk Katzg. I like the sound of the tea room. Mihgt spur me on to run faster if I know I can have a scone with fresh cream afterwards!
Does your brother have children? Would he be happy to put his child in a cot supplied by Vazon do you think? Or is it that 'basic'?

there is loads to do there, the castle in St Peter Port is interesting, there are a number of underground places from when the channel islands were occupied during WW2, also gun battlements ect

there is a cute little chapel, the strawberry farm is worth a visit, if you have time popping over to Herm or Sark is fun although the sea might be a bit choppy!

mckenzie · 17/01/2006 21:57

thansk for all your help Katzg. Much appreciated.

He doesn't have children but we've taken DD1 a few times, he lives about 5 mins drive from Vazon bay!

He doesn't know about the cot - sorry

i would strongly recommend carseats the roads are very twisty and scare the hell out of me!

he says have a look at VisitGuernsey.com

katzg · 17/01/2006 21:58

he also says Guernsey people are nosey so if you enquire you will get an acrrurate picture

mckenzie · 18/01/2006 09:15

the rest of the club are using Harlequin car hire - would you by any chance know if they are reliable? They seem to be cheaper than Sarnia but i dont want to save money at the expense of a good car seat.

i can ask my brother later if you'd like,

mckenzie · 09/02/2006 10:38

can i re-ignite this thread please. I've been looking on the internet and I've contacted the tourist board twice but they haven't sent me any information and we still dont really have much idea of places to visit and things to do etc.
DH is hassling me as he seems to think i'll be off running all day and he'll be having to entertain the children. This is only partially true, but dont tell DH!!!

So, anyone who lives on the island, might it be at all possible for you to please send me some leaflets, newspaper cuttings, adverts etc of things that we might like to do. Very happy to pay postage in advance. Then i can make a game plan to keep everyone happy.

TIA
