We are emigrating to Australia in October and are thinking that a stop somewhere along the way would be good.
We are thinking South East Asia but I'm just not sure where.
Any recommendations? Places to avoid?

I'm happy for a bit of beach but would like some sights also. Somewhere with good food that is happy for children to be around.
any idea?

I have been to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra and Vietnam but all before I had my DS. I love South East Asia but if I was returning with my DS who is now 33 months I think I would go for Malaysia or Singapore.

We've travelled in Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam. Thailand is very easy to travel around with children and the Malaysians were so, so kind with the children. I'd look at where the rainy season is in full swing (certainly wet in Cambodia still then) and go whichever route is dry!

Singapore - for the lovely airport, English speaking general public, lovely food, some sort of beach (sentosa or east coast beach) and great shopping. Lots of deals for 'stopover' tourists where you can buy 1-3 day passes and go see the zoo etc easily. Your child will enjoy the zoo. The night safari is great to go too as it'll help with jet lag!!

Shops open till late too if you want to sort out jet lag that way. Smile

Also, visa costs and vaccinations should be considered.
