Can anyone recommend a good family resort in Mexico for 2 adults and 3 children

Looking to go in May will it be busy then?
We would prefer two interconnecting rooms, can anyone suggest a hotel that does this?
What day trips are a must?
Has anybody been to Mexico and the carribean islands, how do they differ?
Thanks Smile

I would look at what travel agents call 'Riviera Maya', nicer than Cancun imo (just down the coast, you would still fly into Cancun), day trips to Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza, Coba, cenotes.
May is a good time of year, any later and you might be getting into rainy season (Jun-Nov), and it's not school holiday time then so shouldn't be too busy.

I haven't been to the other Caribbean islands so can't help you with that sorry!

We are going in 3 weeks time. I will report back. We had some dificulty finding accommodation for 3 DCs. We are moving around a bit but the first hotel we are in has interconnecting rooms. We are not staying at big AIs though.

We are staying at the following resort in Playa del Car - has good reviews on Tripadvisor. I did a lot of research prior to choosing this hotel.

Suebfg I have been to the Iberostar Tucan 3 times and absolutely love it. It is a fabulous hotel, I can't recommend it highly enough. When are you going?

Hi Alibobster, we're off there in early July - I know it will be hot hot hot (and probably a bit rainy too!). Looking forward to it even more now.

I like the look of iberostar tucan my dc's would love the jungle feel, the only problem is we seem to be paying a premium for the second room. I have been looking at the dreams resorts - tulum and puerto adventuras as they do family rooms or guarantee connecting rooms. Has anyone been to a sandos either caracol or the playacar one, they might be an optin they sleep 5. The biggest resort we have been to to had 400 rooms and was in low season so problem a quarter full at the most, im a bit worried some of the resorts in mexico are going to be massive.

Suebfg we are going again in August. If you want any more info please feel free to pm me. Honestly I have never been anywhere like it, every member of staff is so pleasant and friendly and always give you an Hola! and a smile. It is such a gorgeous and chilled out place and most importantly for us, because we have ds (5) we always feel really safe and secure there. You'll have a ball!
