Egypt - currency and Sharm airport

Hi all,

We're going to Egypt next month and I just wondered what currency we should take?

Also, what were your experiences of Sharm airport? I've just been on their website and there's a passenger feedback section...oh dear lord it sounds horrendous. I think I'll have to take slings to strap ds's (4&5) to our backs!!!

One more thing, did you tip much at the hotel? I've never really tipped at an all inclusive hotel, most of the time we'd have no need to carry any cash if we don't need to buy food or drink. I've read a few bloody awful reviews of our hotel and people have mentioned a few times about tipping.

Oh dear I'm a bit worried about our holiday now, the reviews on trip advisor were really good but tonight I checked on holiday watchdog and they were terrible. We're pretty easy going people, maybe the holiday watchdog people are just harder to please hoping

BTW we're going to the Falcon Hills Hotel, anyone been there/heard of it?

I've been to Egypt four times. The first couple of times we took egyptian pounds. The last couple we took GBP and changed some in our hotel, it had a better rate. The shops accept Egyptian, USD, GBP and Euros.

We tipped the cleaner and sometimes at meals, if you tip they'll remember you and be really attentive the next night. But we didn't tip much, only equivalent to 50p or a £1. They really don't get paid much at all.

The airport was fine, busy, lots of queues but nothing major. At the end of the day it's a military airport so it's not going to be amazing. It's busier if you're buying a visa.

There are some poor hotels in sharm but looking at yours on tripadvisor it looks ok, it's ranked 97 out of 211, the one's i've seen that are bad are ranked 160-onwards. Also, people only tend to review if they found it amazing or horrible so there'll be plenty of other people who liked it but didn't feel the need to review

Thanks a lot fatima, you've put my mind at rest. I think we'll take GBP with us then and change what we need there.

One review said they tipped at the start of the night but then were ignored the rest of the evening as the waiters figured they'd got their lot from them!

I guess you're right about people reviewing, I've never reviewed a hotel before (even if I'd intended to, never quite got round to it somehow).

Thanks
