Croatia - can anyone give me a rough idea of which are the best places to stay?

Thinking of going here in july. Would like a great beach (with good snorkelling), some restaurants and bars (but not too many!). Where would be good to go please? At the moment all of it looks gorgeous so need someone with some experience to guide me. Thanks

We went to the island of Kolocep off the coast from Dubrovnik. Fly to Dub. then catch bus into town, then ferry to island. Stay at only hotel on island Hotel Kolocep - lots of ferries to other islands, v v peaceful, pool right next to sea - lots of snorkelling, kayaking opportunities etc. Our DD (the 7) loved it. Best holiday ever. We booked thru Travel Republic.

Hope to return to Croatia this summer as it's FAB.

We stayed on Lopud. it's on the same ferry route as Kolocep. Loved the ferry ride back to the islands after a day in Dubrovnik, beautiful sunsets.

I think you should go to an island, perhaps Brac or Hvar. I'd advise Dalmatia over Istria because its warmer. Perhaps Milna on Brac would suit your needs perfectly. To get there, you would fly to Split (or Zadar - Ryanair) and drive to the ferry port in Split. Its 90 mins down the motorway from Zadar or 20 mins from Split airport.
The ferries are very frequent and take 30 mins (Brac) or 50 mins (Hvar).

You may like Vis too. or Korcula.
