We are toying with the idea of taking a weeks self catering holiday in France in either May or August. We'd like to take our own car rather than fly.

We are not too keen on v hot weather so do not want to venture down to the south (lucky because I guess the whole of France is down there in August!).

Has anyone got ideas/recommendations on nice areas to stay and any recommendations for accommodation? We are a family of 3 with one DS who will be aged 6 by then.

kannsmum, our favourite holiday is camping in France. We go in the May half term with Eurocamp/Keycamp in a tent for about £320 for the week.

I would recommend the Vendee or Loire as they are better for driving. We did Vendee 2 years ago and it was hot but lovely (about 28) hotter than normal for them. Loire last year was about 24, and great.

Camping is a great way to meet people too, you can go in mobile homes which are luxury. Your DS will meet and play with other kids and there is always loads to do.

Do a few serches for Keycamp/Eurocamp/camping in the MN archives and you will see loads of others opinions.

We are likely to go back Loire in half term, look at eurocamp for loads of places.
