Has anyone been to Le Fayolan in the Jura region? How does the Jura region compare to the Vendee?

We had decided to go to the vendee in august.

But I have now seen le fayolan and it looks lovely.

Has anyone been?

Is the climate comparable?

What about things to do nearby?

I don't know le fayolan but I know the Jura well. August is usually hot and sunny. The scenery is beautiful. The region is half plain, half mountains and there are lots of nice lakes to swim in. It's a very rural region.

I don't know the Jura but I do know the Vendée.

In terms of climate this map
www.france-property-and-information.com/France-weather.htm

shows it fairly clearly. The red bit to the east is the south vendee/north Charente maritime. The Jura is in the green bit to the west.

Scenery wise the Vendée is mostly flat. A bit like Norfolk. Obviously it has the coastline that Jura doesn't.

Top of the list of things to do in the Vendée has to be the Puy du Fou, which is a great day out. If you stay to the south Vendée La Rochelle is nearby, as well as various zoos and adventure parks.

I think the 2 places probably offer a different kind of holiday. If you want sunshine and swimming pools with the odd day out to the beach or surrounding area then the Vendée would be the better bet. If you prefer hiking it the hills then the Jura would be better.

The Jura is hot in Aug and you can swim in lakes. Lots of towns have open air swimming pools and there is a aquapark.

Thanks so much for the replies.

We still can't decide!

Have been to la garangeoire in the vendee before and loved it.

Le fayolan looks the perfect campsite for us but I'm worried if the weather is rubbish what we will do.

Frenchfancy, do you know of any campsites in the vendee with great pool complexes, plenty of activities and fishing?

frenchfancy · 15/01/2012 12:52

I'm not one for big campsites, I prefer smaller ones. This:

www.campinglajoletiere.fr/

is where we normally go. Small site, but the pool is heated and rarely crowded. There is fishing in the lake nearby, but again I know nothing about fishing.

Jura is 5.5 hours from calais.

ENormaSnob · 21/01/2012 08:51

The place we are looking at in jura is a very similar distance from
Calais as the vendee is. We did Calais to vendee in 7 hours including a few stops and getting lost Blush

I have never heard of that magazine ccd, is it available to buy at normal shops?

I've been to that site and we had a lovely holiday, there were no obvious bad points for us. We went at the very end of August so it wasn't too busy. The lake was nice for swimming and canoeing. They'd put down a very course sand so the swimming area wasn't silty. I remember the kayak hire being very reasonable.

I'd say that the Jura is much quieter tourist wise than the Vendee. There's less attractions and touristy trips, however, there are some lovely places to visit. We went for a drive into the national park, went to the cascades, boat trip on the large lake.
