Family friendly walk in Herts

It's my 40th on Sunday and I want to do something nice with dh and our dds (10, 8 and 4). Having adults party on the Sat night so I want to have a nice family day on the actual day.

We have thought of either lunch/tea/early supper at either The Grove (been before so know what to expect) or Hanbury Manor (east Herts I think). I want to make a day of it so was thinking of a nice walk somewhere. I've looked at Whippendell Woods or the Ashridge Estate but don't know much about them.

Trying to avoid going in to central London if possible but there may be more choice. And of course it does depend on the weather.

Any ideas?

Have also found Broxbourne Woods sculpture trail - anyone know anything about this?
