Just for a couple of nights in the summer.

Requirements are: room for 2x adults and 2x dc, preferably central location and not too ££££££.

Thanks.

Does it have to be a hotel - you could try an apartment. We booked through Holiday Velvet for a really central apartment - Fico - just round the corner from Piazza Navona. Restaurants nearby and a supermarket for breakfast and making rolls for lunch. Two bedroomed with a lounge and kitchen area.

We stayed at Casa Montani, is in the perfect location for enjoying Rome and totally ticked the box in terms of what we wanted and needed for our 3 day trip. We booked through i-escape.com

Fab location and definitely not too £££

www.lancelothotel.com/ cannot recommend these guys too highly, absolutely lovely family hotel, brilliant location nr the colosseo. plus, good restaurants round there that are for romans rather than tourists.

Apologies if this is over budget (I am not trying to be an arse, I promise), but here was fab and so central. It was expensive but we had so much to see and do right on the door step so saved loads on cabs. They were also brilliant about booking stuff for us (lovely to walk past the Vatican queue and go straight in). Have a lovely time.

www.bbplanet.com/ is a good site for b&b/apartments etc. you can get an answer from the owners rather than wait for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to hear back from some italian letting agency.

you really, really shouldn't have to take cabs in rome, the public transport is great and tbh you can cross the whole town on foot in an hour or two.

LoveInAColdClimate · 10/01/2012 16:50

I have to admit that we taxied to stuff that was further out rather than braving public transport - it was so fricking hot (high 30s/low 40s) that just sitting in a car with air con was irresistible.

We stayed at the Aleph recently.

Very good location, we walked from station and it's not too £££. It's a couple of minutes from Spanish Steps.

ach, it's all part of the fun. (actually i think trams/buses/subway are air conditioned).

Thanks all (it's me OP!) - I've sent enquiries to some of those recommendations Smile
