Why bother with northern France? Why not go to Cornwall and save the ferry fare? Talk me into it....

The food
the wine

Go to Brittany .. beautiful, fab beaches not too far to drive OR go to Normandy, then head over to Paris for Disneyland ... if that's your sort of thing, it's only a 3hr drive to Paris from the north of France. Whatever you choose, gingerbread's right - it's the food, wine, culture that makes it great

The culture. Its just more "foreign". We're currently weighing up this dilemma with our two who will also be 5 and 2 when we go.

Other thing is (don't know where you're setting off from but) Yorkshire to Brittany is plenty far enough with a grumpy 2yo. I'm hoping she will be a slightly less grumpy 2yo than she was a 1yo last year when we went to Normandy.

littlemissbossy · 14/01/2006 22:14

Bozza, we live in Yorkshire too and have been going to France since youngest DS was 1 - now 5 - no problems whatsoever, although our children always travel well, no sickness

littlemissbossy · 14/01/2006 22:15

Orinoco, we've stayed at quite a few - how far would you want to drive at the other end?

Watching with interest as we think we'd like to brave France this year but don't know where to start. Think Brittany would be far enough for us tbh - don't fancy hours and hours in the car just for the sake of going south.
