Plane travel with a pop-up beach tent

Hiya,
I have a Quechua pop up beach tent which I'm hoping to take to Spain. It's 60cm diameter and I am wondering how I would be able to check it in at the airport (to go in the hold, I know it can't go in as hand luggage).
The tent itself comes in a thin nylon bag - unsuitable on it's own for travelling, far too easily ripped I imagine. Can't find a large-ish square carry bag/case that would take it - other option is a massive suitcase. The ones I've seen that would accommodate it seem too big and reviews have said they take up so much room that it may cause a problem in the boot of a taxi if you have more cases (which we do). I would really rather not have to fork out buying a giant suitcase just to take the tent but I really do want to take it with us. Our travelling weight allowance is 3 bags x 20kg each.
Would be really interested hearing from anyone else who has had to deal with this problem or anyone with any ideas...my brain's frazzled trying to suss out what to do.
Cheers

Can't you just wrap it in cardboard? See if you can get hold of a large box from one of the local supermarkets and cut to size

ours fit on top of the case - does yours not?
