A company like Canvas, or Key camp and have your own tent/caravan. That way your kids can go to bed when you want, you can have more independence, but still get together for shared barbies. South of france or Spain.

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 17:06

not camping!!!!

Blandmum · 14/01/2006 17:09

You could go in a caravan....that isn't real camping And they are very posh nowerdays, have showers and loos and microwaves and all sorts

Even bed IIRC

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 17:12

beety, there is cheap and "cheap"

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 17:38

yes ok no CHEAP but not expensive

sort of 4* hotel package type thing

lapsedrunner · 14/01/2006 18:41

If I hadn't just seen your 4 star hotel comment I would have said a gites complex in France using www.gites-de-france.fr.

However what you could look at is Italy with www.agriturismo.com. Some are basic but many are very smart villa/country hotel style places, a great website.

lapsedrunner · 14/01/2006 18:44

If you are not dead set on 100% certainty of serious heat do look at Austria and www.kinderhotels.com (in english), 4 star hotels in fantastic locations with childcare/activities. Cheap flights with Ryanair to Salzburg, Linz, Klagenfurt & Graz plus other cheapie airlines.

Janh · 14/01/2006 18:46

Well I've no idea what your 3 families' idea of cheap is, or how much flights would be at halfterm, but how about this? (There is another one next door that sleeps 7 but costs more )

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 20:41

Jan that looks good. but we are 15 all together.

Will look at Italy and Gites

Am thinking package as flights over half term are stupid

OP posts:
Janh · 14/01/2006 20:47

One sleeps 8, one sleeps 7, that made 15 last time I counted on my fingers!

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 20:49

Have you looked at www.vrbo.com? You can rent all sorts of different sizes of property, all over the world. Self-catering, but still! Often really luxurious places.

Doesn't get you a package, but maybe you can get cheap flights?

Bozza · 14/01/2006 20:50

4* hotel = cheap?

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 20:52

For example, this one sleeps 14-16, and costs 6,500 euros per week in the time you're interested in. Italy. Private beach club 100m away.

(6,500 euros sounds like a lot, but I don't think it is, split three ways, and covering a week?)

Janh · 14/01/2006 20:53

Bozza, that is why I said "cheap"! beety has different ideas from us mortals

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 20:53

Or this one, 2 4-bed villas, 2,800 euros each for a week. Sardinia.

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 21:28

you can get 4* hotels cheap..Just htought someone mightknow a deal.

Thanks will look out for all those.

Jnh you are beign a bit cutting!!!

OP posts:
Janh · 14/01/2006 21:32

Only a bit though, flower

Beetrootfultoyourself · 14/01/2006 21:35

6500E between 5 is good if we can get cheap flights.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 21:38

Beety, I only had the briefest of glances on that site, just for anything that had enough room. I'm sure you can find something better.

This site isn't bad, either, despite the naff name.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 22:10

Actually, the second site has a better search engine. I found 44 properties in Italy that will take 15 people. here

Janh · 14/01/2006 22:15

holiday rentals website - put in the number of bedrooms and the dates and see what comes up (I tried it and there were 120+ with 8 bedrooms)

Janh · 14/01/2006 22:18

Sleeps 24, with pool near Girona/Lloret - 2300 euros.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/01/2006 22:25

Yeah, the homelidays site has cheaper ones than the vrbo one, I think. That being said, vrbo places tend to be pretty luxe. At least, that's been my experience.

It does seem to be cheaper to do this sort of thing self-catering, particularly if you deal directly with the owner of the property.
