Getting to central Rome from Fiumicino

Hi. I was wondering about the cheapest and easiest way to get to the centre. I am staying near to Piazza Navona. Plane lands about lunchtime. Many thanks.

I went in the summer and we got a taxi From Fiumicino to the main station where our hotel was, but if I remember correctly there were some bus routes which would be available in the early afternoon. I can't remember off the top of my head how much the taxi was..

Same as cheeser: we got a taxi. Can't have been too expensive cos I don't remember the price. IIRC DH pre-booked it on internet.
What I do remember about the journey was Italian drivers trying to fit five lanes into a four-lane motorway Shock and our taxi-driver stopping off to re-fuel with a fag in his mouth. ShockShock

There's a train that goes straight into the centre from the airport (Termini station) and you can then get the metro, which is easy to use. It's a cheap option and not too slow - not sure if you need to keep costs down.

Clearly I can't read! When I went, the trains were every 15 mins and well signposted. That was a few years ago now though. The cafe at Termini station is freakishly good for cheap lunch, too - looks like a service station but has pasta like Carluccios.

Oh yes, I second the cafe at Termini. We stayed really close to the station and often stopped there on our way out! Loved Rome, have a fab time Borntoberiled!!

PS I can recommend the restaurants in the student quarter (about 15 mins walk sort of East from Termini - away from the main tourist direction) - we had the best pizza I ate the whole time I was in Italy (went to Rome, Naples, Sorrento and Positano). Much cheaper than touristy places, too. If you're interested I can dig out the name of the place that did IMO the best pizza EVAH

Train is Leonardo da Vinci express and costs ? 14 each iirc. Metro from Termini is ?1 and small children don't pay. Taxi from airport to' city centre is ? 40 fixed rate (again iirc, I normally train it).
