am hoping that me, DP and LO will get away for a week in the summer. LO is due at the beginning of february and we would hope to go away at the end of may or some time in june or if necessary beginning of september. I am being stupid to think this is a good/feasible idea?! if anyone has done this where are good places to go with such a tiny baby?!

TIA xxx

Not stupid at all. I think the beginning of September might be better, baby will be very portable at that age, but you will be settled into a routine.

I prefered at that aged to keep my own car, so France would be a good option. If you get down as far as La Rochelle the weather is still very good at the beginning of Sept.

No- i took dd away when she was 4 months old and have already booked to take dd (due in 2 weeks) to France in August.

We did a lot of travelling with dd including long haul. It is tough before they are 1 but then again i found being at home with her tough before then.

Oh and agree France with a car a great choice .

The only thing about driving to France is the long drive if we went to France it's 6 hours to the ferry then however long when you get there.

I would definitely book somewhere though, Some airlines give you baggage allowance for babies too, we flew with thomson and you get 10kg.

We had a lovely holiday in France when DC1 was seven months old. She was interested in what was going on around her, but not yet mobile, and happy to sit smiling in a highchair with a piece of baguette! Took the car and a tent and shedloads of baby equipment.

France in September will be a bit end of season, so might not be the best destination but you should be able to have a lovely holiday somewhere with a baby that age.

I went to Tenerife when DS1 was 10 weeks and to Cyprus when DS2 was 10 weeks and had a lovely time on both holidays . I stuck to their routines and they were both sleeping through the night. I actually found those holidays easier than other holidays when they were crawling and mobile and I was worrying about them getting hurt.

We went to normandy when dd was 4 months old. It was lovely. We rented a gite so we had all mod cons. We popped her in the sling to visit castles etc or in the pushchair for nice walks. We tried to time lunch etc for when she was napping so we could have a quiet meal and a glass of wine. As others have said - it's much easier than when they are mobile and you have to watch them ALL the time near swimming pools/on the beach etc.

Also we went to Italy when she was about 7 months. This was September so still quite warm. She went in the pool for the first time and otherwise sat on a blanket under the parasol with her toys whilst we chilled out. A BIG fuss was made of her everywhere she went - taken off by waiters to look at the fishtank etc, breadsticks to chew on. We used to go for a nap in during the warmest part of the afternoon, then go for a nice long stroll on the seafront after she had had tea.
