Holiday dilemma

My dad spends half the year in Tenerife and I try to take ds in the february half term to see him.

This year the flights seem to be a lot more expensive and I don't know if I can afford/justify the cost.

I have a few options...

  1. we pay a lot more to go in the school holiday but I only need to take the minimum of time off (majority of my work is during term time).

  2. we have a week during the school term when it'd be considerably cheaper but will cause inconvenience work-wise and ds would miss school.

  3. we overlap half-term and miss the first 2 days of school, the flights are a bit cheaper but ds and I would have to take 2 days off school/work.

  4. we don't go at all and hope the flights are cheaper next year. This would also mean that ds and I miss out on spending time with my dad.

If you can get the time off work and permission to take DS out of school, option 3 looks like a sensible compromise to me.
