Three things I'd love help with if anyone knows:
Where might be a nice place to stay (dd is 11), quiet area, not a red light district etc. Would like to go to the ballet or a concert if that is any help and otherwise wander about looking at buildings.
How safe did you feel there generally?
Can you get by (as a tourist) in English or basic Russian or do they dislike it if you try and speak Russian as opposed to Ukrainian?
will get some guide books obviously nearer the time.
