That's it really! I love the look of caorle. DC not old enough to be into all the kids clubs and stuff and Ds scared of swimming pools so we'd just like to hire a car, explore some cool places and eat lovely food. But I'm finding the internet overwhelming. Any suggestions?

In the summer the traffic can be REALLy awful - and imho, it is either built up or campsites. I would go the other side to the Med - Cinque Terre for example. We stayed here in Deiva Marina a few years back. He also has apartments across the square. It was fabulous and you don't even need a car!

The train line runs all along the coast - and is about 10 mins walk to the station. We flew to Genoa and got the train there. The Cinque Terre villages are stunning. There is a wonderful walk - via dell'amore along the cliff side, which can even be done with a pushchair. Sunset over Vernazza is to die for. In the summer there are boat trips to Portofino and Lerici in the opposite direction. (Bay of Poets where Shelley drowned). The scenery is stunning.

Genoa has an aquarium and various attractions if you can drag yourself away. And the food is amongst the best I ever had in Italy! Lots of seafood and nice wine. Very child friendly also.

Ooh thanks, off to google! I'm finding nothing but hotels or campsites so I guess you're right!

Let me know if you want any info. Another "down" on the Venetian Rivieria is that it seems mainly set up for German tourists. (Venice aside). Now I have nothing against Germans I hasten to add - but when I go to Italy I want things to be "Italian" - not to be spoken to in German and offered German beer etc. It's a bit like the full english breakfast thing in Spain......

That's interesting, thanks for the heads up!
