Safe and special holiday ideas

Hello all,
I am a long term lurker and occasional poster who has name changed for this thread. I am looking for ideas for a family holiday this summer for myself, DH, DD 17 and DS 14.

Last summer, on holiday in Greece, DS had an awful accident on a waterslide. He is ok now but I didn't cope well. I still have flashbacks and cry about it. I blame myself.
At least 3 times a week I wake suddenly from a dream about the accident.

The rest of the family have moved on but I am worried by the idea of a holiday and feel like staying at home for ever!!!!

Realistically, we probably only have 1 or 2 more family holidays all together - so I need to get over myself.

SO where would you recommend for a family holiday where I won't spend the whole time stressing out but the DCs won't be bored stiff. Who has been somewhere magically relaxing and a bit different to the usual beach and pool experience?

TIA

How about South Africa something like Cape Town and a safari. California also makes a great family holiday. My sons are 11 and 13 and we really enjoy cruises.

Thanks Fluffy
This time last year I would have leapt at S Africa, but I just don't feel brave enough for anything adventurous. I haven't ever considered a cruise. What would happen if one of us had an accident at sea?

I was going to suggest the ME. Multi centres including Oman Dubai and the emirates.
I think, having seen your concern about falling off a ship you'd be better off in your back garden having day trips to garden centres.

If they like the water how about the Maldives. The sealife is fantastic and there are some larger islands which enough facilities so keep them entertained.
