Weekend break to Germany

Inspired by the Bavarian market in Hyde Park! DD1 is doing GCSE German but there is no exchange programme, DP was stationed there in the army, I've never been except for passing through Frankfurt airport which doesn't really count. Any suggestions for a good place to visit for 3 nights with DDs age 12 and 14?

Has to be Munich, if you are inspired by the Bavarian Christmas market...

We live near Munich but rarely get into the city due to 3 small children. However it is a lovely old city with everything you could want for a weekend break with older children I'd say. Good public transport and also nice to walk around.

Bavarian's speak dialect a lot though (thinking of your dd if she wants to practice her German)... but in tourist spots that is far less the case.

I'd go to Berlin but Hamburg is lovely too.
Don't go to Frankfurt, it's very business like and there wouldn't be much to do.

Berlin is great! But if you are looking for somewhere smaller and easy to get round in a weekend then Cologne is nice too as is Nuremberg
