After yrs of hassle at Xmas we have decided that next yr we would like to be in incontactable .
Have done Florida and loved it but not sure about the weather in dec!
We want sun and sand.
Will fly for a max of 10 hours .
Any one recommend brazil? Thailand ?
Have some virgin points but not enough to make a big difference!
Thanks

I would go to Bali, absolutely stunning but stay away from Kuta. I've only been to Rio but it was fantastic too though I didn't feel particularly safe there but that might just be me, before I get flamed. Grin

Think it may be more than 10 hours but I went via Singapore. Is Brazil more than 10 hours? I went down to Argentina first but it seemed such a long way.

How about Sri Lanka or somewhere like Kerala in Southern India.

sailorsgal · 26/12/2011 10:17

Or the caribbean? though would be mostly a beach holiday if thats what you are after. Antigua is very nice.

ihatethecold · 26/12/2011 11:46

bali is 16 hours ,, way too long

I'm currently in Dubai. 6.5 hour flight, fabulous hotels, guaranteed sunshine. What's not to like? Have done Thailand, but think that is about 13 hours and Spain, but you can't guarantee the weather. Caribbean might just meet your 10 hour flight cut-off, but you have to book flights early as they get booked up very early. If you like Florida, then have a look at Mexico.

Dubai for me next year!

ivykaty44 · 26/12/2011 14:18

How about Oman, beautiful country and lovely people

sailorsgal · 26/12/2011 16:33

I think Oman looks interesting too.

strandednomore · 26/12/2011 16:37

Jamaica/St Lucia are both approx 8 hours. I would recommend Jamaica.
Otherwise I love Thailand. Oman sounds interesting.

suburbophobe · 26/12/2011 16:44

I can recommend Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Kerala and Brazil! (Bahia and Natal).

I've heard the best time for Bali is actually the summer.....

sailorsgal · 26/12/2011 16:50

I love Cuba too but have been in December and it was unseasonally cold. My parents were in Natal and the Bahia area of Brazil last year and enjoyed it.

strandednomore · 26/12/2011 17:56

It might take a little longer to get to (you would probably have to go via Miami) but I can also heartily recommend Belize. Depends what you are looking for, it's a little more small resort/boutique than upmarket and flashy but it's a fabulous country.

right, today whilst at work , im going to look into oman and dubai!
i know a little about dubai but nothing about oman.

i think i would like to travel direct to somewhere, rather than 2 plane journeys.

whats the consensus on booking, early or last minute?

my thoughts are early so i im not stressing in nov when there is nothing left?

we've been to the maldives twice at Christmas - amazing, fabulous place that is truly more beautiful that the photos (and it looks amazing in the photos). Direct flight with BA is 10 hrs although you may have to add a short seaplane hop after that, which is a one in a lifetime experience by itself.

We've also been to the Dom rep twice at Xmas and to Egypt twice. All lovely, but nothing compares to the Maldives.
