Pierre et Vacances?

I think we're booking a Pierre et Vacances trip this Easter. Has anyone used them? What are they like?

Which one are you planning to go to ?

lapsedrunner · 11/01/2006 09:36

My sister has used them, but without children. She was very ipressed and would use them again.

Cap Esterel, I think. I don't know where that is, though, helpfully enough. South somewhere?

I need one with childcare, for DS2 who will be 18 months. Not full-time childcare, but a morning off here and there.

We went to the South of France (just outside Cannes), three years ago. I can't remember the name of the accommodation but it was very good. I would use them again. We booked through Cresta.

My mother lives next to one of them. Pont Royal in Provence.
I have used their clubs for my kids and they liked it.
Pont Royal is with Marseille Airport and it has a very good golf club with it. It's a very pretty village (very new).
Do you or DH play golf ?

lolpop · 11/01/2006 10:36

We stayed in the one near Disneyland, took 4 adults and two children (aged 4 and 2). They didn't have a children's club but the apartments were great.

We thought it was excellent, we're going again soon.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2006 19:06

We don't golf. They're not just about golf are they?

Oh, at least now I know where it is. It looks like the childcare only runs in the summer? Which could be ok, the "summer" there begins a week after our holiday does. I'll call up and talk to an operator, to check:

  • when the childcare runs
  • whether anyone will speak english

I think that's all I really need to know.

Hmm, now I've looked closer, and Les Restanques looks very good, but only opens a week after our holiday starts. Maybe I'll talk to the builders about dates ...

Apparently the childcare does only start on the 8th. But they will have people who speak English.

NQC I've stayed at Cap Esterel (a long time ago when DS1 was 3.5 and ds2 was 7 months). We did use the kids club once or twice and the staff spoke English. If there is anything I might be able to help with feel free to ask or CAT me if you prefer. We flew to Marseilles and hired a car. How were you planning to get there?

NotQuiteCockney · 16/01/2006 16:58

Whoops, copycat, didn't see your reply before.

I have no idea how we'd get there. I'd rather not be driving around a lot, was thinking maybe TGV + taxi? Maybe rent a car a bit?

My big questions were, I guess:

  • What is the food like?

  • What is good in the neighbourhood? Is it walking distance from a town or anything else interesting? (And what's the food like there?)

NQC - no they are not all about golf.
I suspect that they have on site restaurants.
The Pont Royal one has at least 3 restaurants (including a real good pizzeria).
Hope you have fun.
