Longshot I know but has anyone been skiing in South Tyrol or Crans Montana
I'm looking for childcare recommendations in either place

Presumably you mean for skiing ? Been to Crans Montana (ds was 2ish) but didn't use the resort childcare in the end. It looked ok if hectic and didn't hear much English spoken. Not the easiest of places to negotiate with little ones tbh as it is very spread out. Where exactly in South Tyrol ?

Sorry was a bit dim and didn't register the title ! iirc one of the hotels in Crans is now marketing itself as a family-orientated hotel and may well have its own childcare facility. Do bear in mind that unless it is run by a British company the ratios and standards for Swiss childcare are less regulated than in UK.

Not sure of the place in South Tyrol - the hotel is Plunhof in Ratschings - Ridnaun

Little ones will be under one so language doesn't really matter to us

Sorry not heard of it, is it with a tour operator ?

Blondeinlondon · 11/01/2006 07:51

No not with a tour operator unfortunately

We have 2 choices - the hotel with friends with a ski-age child or Crans with childfree friends
Either way we have to find our own childcare

Look at www.kinderhotels.com, they provide full childcare. There are 3 hotels listed in South Tyrol. They even have a 5 smiley" one which is really top of the range .

Copied from a tourist site :-

"Also try Fleurs des Champs, rte de Fleurs des Champs, Montana (027-481-2367; fax 027-481-2368) which takes children from 3 months to 7 years old, and Halte-Garderie P'tits Bouts, Immeuble Les deux Lacs, 3963 Crans-Montana (027-480-2658) that takes children from age 2 to 8. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and costs CHF7 per hour and CHF18 for three hours."

We saw the Fleur des Champs, from the outside. There is a playground very close by and they took young toddlers/babies out in triple pushchairs or on sleds. The ski bus stops at the end of the road leading to it iirc.

The Crans-Montana website itself is here . The resort has several different areas to it, is spread out and the skiing is away from the hotels with a few(expensive) exceptions.
