It's a really pretty village, lots to do in County Durham, really good base for visiting Weardale, Teesdale, Northumberland, Pennines.

Hi to both of you, Thank you for your replies. I have booked the cottage as to be honest the lady owner sounded so lovely and she was so excited that we had triplets that I felt I couldn`t say no!I found a very good website for Wolsingham, there even seems to be a swimming pool there! It looks lovely, so I am really looking forward to going and exploring the area. Are you actually in Durham Nellie 245? Would love some tips on places to visit, though we have been before, so have done Beamish, Rail Museum, Hamsterly Forest,Metro Centre, the big free museum in Newcastle, and obviously Durham. Oh, and High Force!

We have a caravan in Wolsingham and it's gorgeous. DD1 would spend hours down by the river, from the riverside you can walk through a little woods straight onto a feild that leads to the playpark. There are lots of villages further on and Crook is only 20 minutes or so away too.

Gosh what quick replies! Rebecca, Thomas and James will be 8 on the 27th of this month.

We are bringing my mum, she will be happy to potter in Wolsingham, spend most of the time with her feet up watching the telly! She won`t be able to walk like we like to do, she just comes for a change of 4 walls. We do have another child, and I would give anything to be taking him with us, but he died 11 years ago, I always asume that everyone knows by now, I have been around a long time!
SnowmAngeliz · 10/01/2006 21:24
Oh i'm so so sorry to hear that
Your triplets should love it i think down by the river.

Well if you see some frazzled older parents, an elderly lady with a stick, and three terrors youll know we
ve arrived! Does Wolsingham have a nice pub, cafe?

There is a cafe in the village but i've nevr been, there are two pubs and i've sat outside of one and had lunch which was lovely. There is also a pizza place ( they make them up for you while you wait) and a chinese take away!
15 minutes away in Frosterley there is a lovely fish and chip shop too.

Please dont feel bad Nellie245, its ok. Though what I wouldn
t give to have Matthew with me. He saw alot of the world in his 14 years, but never County Durham, Yorkshire was as far north in this country. Thomas is the image of him, which makes me feel he is never very far away.

Hi,
Thank you for all the info, there seems so much to do that a week will not be long enough! It was the train place at Shildon I am sure we went to. Are the pubs child friendly, I ask as they are not down here!

There's a good leadmining museum-type thing at the end of Weardale - think it's called Killhope. You can go down into the mine and there's quite a lot to do up top. Mine loved it last year (ages from 4 to 9).
