Lapland next weekend...it's raining...

Hello

Looking for advice from anyone who had been to Lapland at this time of year. Have booked a daytrip to Lapland (on a whim at the beginning of the year) and we are due to go next Saturday, but looked on the webcam and it's pouring down.

I am seriously worried there will be no snow (kind of took it for granted there would be) and not sure what would happen with the organised activites if there is no snow?

Already panicking that I have wasted my money and that I have done the wrong thing in booking..

Can anyone advise me what the weather was like before they went out?
Thanks!

Have not gave

And have read post back and we stayed in a hotel when back in uk (thought it sounded a bit like we stayed a night in Lapland).

So tired have lost the ability to think/type but kids are sleeping in bed Grin

Glad you had a good time, you've made me even more excited for our trip now! De-ice plane Grin

Did you/ are you taking snow goggles or sun glasses?
We have balaclavas, neck gaiters, thermals, silk glove and boot liners, fleeces and warm trousers, plus disposable foot and hand warmers. Esprit provide boots and snow suits. Will this be enough, do you think?

FiveHoursSleep · 14/12/2011 09:22

Getting excited now. Still haven't told kids! Trying to work out how to tell them.

jinglebellhop · 15/12/2011 21:56

Fivehours-that sounds a good list! We didn't take glasses or googles (but did not do any skiing!)

The suits and boots which were provided for us were excellent too.

We told the kids at the airport (initially we told them we were going look at the planes Hmm and it took them a while to come to terms that they were actually going on the plane!

Hope you have a lovely time!

It's still snowing up there!!!!! Not silly cold though, hoping it stays that way! Think we're going to tell ds in the car after we pick him up early from school on Tue.

FiveHoursSleep · 15/12/2011 22:16

Our school finishes tomorrow, so no need for early pick ups. We may tell them on Sunday or then again maybe Monday night? We'll have to tell them something as we have to leave at 4:30 am Tuesday!

Well have just got back tonight. It was absolutely amazing and one of the best holidays ever! Will update more tomorrow as we are all exhausted. Lots of snow and not too cold. Magical!!!! Xmas Grin

FiveHoursSleep · 19/12/2011 23:59

We are off in about 5 hours. Wish us luck!

Home and shattered. I spoke to someone yesterday I thought might be 40nottrendy but it wasn't Blush
Was very good though.

40notTrendy · 24/12/2011 20:39

Back too. Flipping heck. Brilliant. Worth every penny (and there were manyGrin) Think I saw FiveHoursSleep at top of sledging run on the activity day but was too scared to ask Blush Grin

sailorsgal · 24/12/2011 21:39

I'm just about to watch the comedy Lapland on BBC1 with Sue Johnstone.

Can't believe it was a week ago since we were there. We are definitely going back. Would like to know more about Saariselka. Did you get to see the northern lights?

Wished we had stayed for xmas too as ds asked if it was going to snow tonight.

FiveHoursSleep · 24/12/2011 22:01

No Northern lights when we were there, too cloudy. But they do see them quite often from what I can tell.
Esprit run trips out to see them but they are a bit cheeky- they go around 4:30, and you are most likely to see them between 9pm and 1 am. It's best to walk up to the top of the toboggan run about 10pm and try your luck.
We didn't do this as we were too knackered. We did the Reindeer Safari and husky Trail though.
I don't think we'll do the Santa thing again, but I would like to explore the area more.

40notTrendy · 25/12/2011 16:16

We didn't do any extras, too expensive and would have been even more frantic! Did you have a sauna? We had one in our room, which was heaven until ds decided to join me, not all relaxingGrin. Apart from the Santa bit, favourite bit the husky ride. And playing in the snow. And sledging. Oh well, all of it!

FiveHoursSleep · 25/12/2011 17:09

We had an extra day but yes, was frantic! No Sauna in room but we used the hotel pool which was good, but lifeguard was very strict!!!
We loved the husky driving but for the short one, the poor dogs had to pull all 6 of us in one sled-eeek!
For the longer one we were split into two teams. It was 7:20 the morning we flew out, so was a bit of an effort.

FiveHoursSleep · 28/12/2011 20:23

If anyone is interested in reading more about Lapland, I've been blogging about it from here
There is a post about wrapping presents in the middle, just ignore that and go onto the next.
