I've booked a surprise holiday for DH to France on the ferry on Dec 27th. My passport isn't out of date till Dec 2014 and is still in my maiden name (i've been married 18 months).

I have travelled on it twice after being married with no trouble do i legally have to change it? Really can't afford too?!?

the ticket and the passport has to have the same name, so if you booked the ticket in your married name then you have a problem.

Yes just book holiday in maiden name

oooggs · 24/11/2011 19:28

You don't have to change it until it expires, just keep booking in maiden name. I did for 2 years before mine ran out

I;ve booked in my married name!!!! Sad i seem to remember i did this last time and all was fine. If i ring the ferry company and explain do you think they'l amend it?

Ring the ferry company , surely they can amend the tickets, easier & cheaper than doing the passport, especially with only 5 weeks to go!

ring the ferry company and change the name on the holiday... ferries aren't as strict as airlines but for the small admin charge it might be it's worth the peace of mind.

Yep will do tomorrow.

Thanks for all help.

Meant to be a stress free break its caused me nothing but so far!!!!

Chocorocco if the ferry company cannot change the name on the tkt they probably will for a fee then bring your marriage certificate.
Plse don't just risk it you could be refused travel and have no come back with travel insurance.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 25/11/2011 10:28

No, ticket and passport have to match otherwise you may well be refused permission to travel.

Hopefully the ferry company have been helpful re amending your name to show your maiden name.

Fee to renew your passport is currently £77.50 (ouch!). I would renew your passport anyway on return from your holiday as these fees will probably increase again before your passport expires in 2014.

My passprt is in my maiden name and I always travel in the maiden name. except for last year when I forgot and booked our summer holiday in my married name, dunce.

Had to phone the holiday company and get my name changed on the ferry - didn't bother with the campsite. They changed my ferry tickets no problem but I did take my marriage cert with me, just incase!

For foreign travel, the name on ticket definitely has to match the passport.

I've eurostarred with ticket in one name, passport in the other and birth and marriage certs.

I then put both on my passport and still take birth and marriage certs in case of problems.

Try changing it but if you can't then take everything you can and explain.
