Q for the Aussie - Which Formula?

Hi, we are coming over to Aus for a month in a couple of weeks and I am looking into which formula we will use. DS will be 4 & 1/2 mnths old and is not currently looking to wean yet. He is having SMA Gold here in the UK. I was wondering which formula you would recommend. Also do any formula's come in ready-mix or premade cartons or individual powder sachets?

Many thanks.

no premix cartons but do individual sachets in the up to 6 month formula - have seen it in Karicare and karicare gold - available from supermarkets for about a dollar/2

We used aptamil for dd1 but when we came to Aus we used karicare gold - she coped fine....

sachet makes up 200mls.

Thank you - eidsvold.

Does anyone know if it would be a problem for me to bring in baby formula to Australia. I know that Aus is stringent on bringing food into the country?

you can bring in 1 months supply. I had some left over premix cartons which I had no problem bringing in. I always declare anything I am dubious about - usually have no probs BUT with regards to formula - it is 1 months supply.

Formula here is so cheap and easy to get hold of. I would bring enough to get you by for the first day or so and then just grab some. Or of you are staying with relies like we were - get them to buy you a tin. Otherwise you are going to be weighed down with it.

I took in formula and declared it to the customs people on arrival - they had a look at the ingredients and as there was no egg in it they let me in with it.

My twins were also on SMA Gold. Whilst in Aus for 3 weeks I cant remember the name of the formula but it looked just like SMA Gold and was made by the same company - you will know it in the supermarket when you see it!

If you go onto the Australian Gov website, they tell you what you can and can't take in. Formula was prohibited a couple of years ago during foot and mouth (we got ours confiscated) but the last time I went in April 2005, they were fine about it, I took in both powder and ready made, as my DD would only drink a certain brand. Hope this helps!!
