Need your help please - can't think of anywhere...Really really (like never before!) need a break somewhere not long haul that will be warm for the first two weeks of March with DH and DS. DS is 3.5yrs and will need some form of entertainment (creche? kids club?)

I can only think of the Canaries which may be our best option, but don't want to be surrounded by sunburnt beer swilling brits brandishing union jack boxer shorts...

Playa Blanca on Lanzarote, it's a reasonably upmarket small family resort.
Lanzarote seems to attract less of 'that' crowd anyway, and it's a beautiful island, lots to explore. The weather will be fab.

thanks, will check on web....

You could try Cyprus, fairly far down enuff to be warm in March, not been myself tho, tis on the list of things to do!

MuddlingThru · 30/12/2005 10:40

Cyprus can be a bit hit and miss temperature wise that early in the season. I went to Sharm el Sheik last year in Feb and it was into the 20s everyday - no idea about kids entertainment tho as I was 5 months pg with ds.

Hi, fuertventura is supposed to be lovely and if you choose your resort carefully, there are hardly any brits abroad there

desperatehousewife · 30/12/2005 10:45

cheers - any other ideas anyone....??

Is Dubai too far for you? It's 7hrs and would be fab that time of year.

sammac · 30/12/2005 16:16

Tunisia. Not too far to travel either, only 2 1/2 hours from London

desperatehousewife · 30/12/2005 16:17

tbh never really fancied dubai - seems a bit glittery for my liking...? Tunisia I'll look at...good idea. Anyone know of any holiday compainies with child care...?

Just did a quick google for you and came up with this Gives you an idea, but there were a lot of sites to look at.

JackFrostStini · 30/12/2005 16:26

Another vote for Fuerteventura - fab beaches, calm sea and very family friendly people & hotels.
Tunisia good if you find the right hotel with all facilities and you don't really want to go out/move anywhere much (Which may sound like a good plan if you are exhausted DHW)
Hope you find somewhere good - you deserve a nice break

Sorry, didn't work

try again

JackFrostStini · 30/12/2005 16:27

Ooops - meant to add - most of the big holiday companies have childcare pages at the front of the brochure - just need to check they do the right age range for the property/resort you want

desperatehousewife · 30/12/2005 19:12

trouble is that most of the operators don't start their holiday's until April/May...or is that rubbish?

March comes under winter brochures. Should still be able to see them on-line.

geekgrrl · 31/12/2005 08:32

mmmh, I don't think fuerte is that great with small children? Maybe it was just the particular side I was on, but as the name suggests it was very windy - I went pre-children to do winsurfing, which it was really good for. Also, there's nothing to do on the island really. Would be happy to be corrected.

feastofsteven · 31/12/2005 20:17

Sicily/Southern Italy may be warm enough if you're lucky. Otherwise Canaries/North Africa are most likely candidates for shorthaul winter warmth.

bambi06 · 31/12/2005 20:27

eilat in israel is hot all year round anyway and by march is about 25c lots of hotels/safari/diving/swim with the dolphins/ the red sea is full of beautiful marine life and a hot spot for divers ..thers also the dead sea but not ideal for young kids as the salt level is too dangerous for them..but all the hotels are exc in eilat so just pick one and flying time is about 4 1/2 hours.

bambi06 · 03/01/2006 09:28

sorry its actually hotter than that in eilat as its 24 c atm..we went february once and it was hot hot hot

elliott · 03/01/2006 09:52

I think lanzarote is less windy than fueteventura. Went to playa blanca in november and really enjoyed it - but we didn't do anything except go to the beach and pool. What other activities do you want to do?
have to say I'm not convinced the canaries would be that warm at the beginning of march - you'd definitely need to find a place with a heated pool I'd say - north africa might be a better bet (morocco/tunisia).
