Trying again to think about a holiday in April, it will be the big holiday for the year as we can't get away for the summer plus it is to expensive.

Thought the kids might like Barcelona as they loved Paris. Hoping for temperatures above freezing and cheap and I mean cheap accomodation.

Any help????? TIA

Try looking at craigslist here for accommodation listings

would you consider doing a house swap? That's a cheap option, although not without pitfalls I imagine!

the last two times we've been there we've rented an apartment to stay in, but it wasn't terribly cheap (90 euro a night)

good choice of destination - there is absolutely loads to do for adults and children and the weather should be lovely in april

It was mild, but rainy when we stayed in Barcelona in April. Cheap accomodation difficult to find IIRC. Search the Travel archives - there have been some recommendations for places to stay in the past. We stayed in an OK 3 star hotel, on Las Ramblas nr Cataluyna Square. It wasn't good value though. Approx £40 per night.
Sitges is a short train journey from Barcelona, nice resort - self catering accommodation cheaper than in Barcelona. We called the Tourist Information office in Sitges and got a 2 bed apartment for £220 for one week.

I'd recommend a trip up to Figueres and also Cadaques - easy to get to Figueres on the train (the fabulous Dali theatre museum is there and is a must-see). Cadaques is a lovely seaside resort (lout free) which is a coach ride from Figueres. Dali's house is nearby at Port Lligat - another place that's very well worth seeing

We went at easter time last year and had a fabulous break.

We stayed in the born area and booked through these people Habitat

The children had a great time, tapas must be the most child friendly cuisine in the world!

We made the children have siestas in teh afternoon so that they could stay up late which worked well.

We did the open topped bus tour, aquarium, merket bouquaria, some easter parades, the beachy bit with lots of restaurants (forget what it is called), parks etc, and this lovely tiddly fair ground near the bridge over to the aquarium which was the highlight of our early evenings!

this place looks good

funny you should say that soapbox, I was about to suggest somewhere in the born - it's convenient for the beach, the park and the old town

We went in Feb. It was warm enough for me to sit outside for coffee while dh had meeting. I know my kids would love it.

The apartment looks good spacedonkey, trying to work out the cost in pounds.

craigslist is a brilliantly simple classifieds site (or group of sites - it's a worldwide thing) - look at the link

spacedonkey · 30/12/2005 00:36

that apartment is £377 per week at current exchange rates

I'm not sure about booking selfcatreing direct with the owners don't know why but I am a bit wary, I suppose I like the probably false reassurrance of a big company. In that respect a house swap would be out of the question plus i don't think mine is suitable. Perhaps If I had a personnal recommendation i would consider booking direct.
