Can anyone recommend a place to stay in the Canaries?

We want to spend a week in the sun just before Christmas. Can anyone recommend a place to stay in the Canaries? We would prefer to stay either in self-catering accommodation or in a hotel where self-catering is possible, because dd will be only 11 months old and will not be able to eat hotel meals easily. We would prefer somewhere reasonably quiet and which feels Spanish.

There's a place I thought about that if you look on babygoes2 and go into Canaries with specifications abut what you want looks very pretty (gardens/pools - rooms with little gardens on the ground floor etc) and, I think has self catering aspect plus it's a hotel with facilities. It's also recommended by Simply Spain so should be quite nice. Sorry - can't remember the name but does seem fairly well equipped for children. I think the only thing I didn't like was that it's fairly large. Also another place - again can't remember the name but if you do a search on Sunday Times holiday section - think they recommend places too.

I would second playa blanca. it has a nice traffic free promenade and feels quite traditional. there are some lovely places to visit on the island if you hire A CAR FOR THE DAY.

have just booked a week at the Lanzarote Princess, a 4 hotel in Playa Blanca on recommendation from this website and holidays-uncovered.co.uk. Couldn't decide between the hotel and a sister aparthotel (H10 group) called the Bahia Blanca Rock - a 3 with apartments and half board option.
Having done SC last time when dd was 13 mths, decided I wanted a bit of winter luxury, so went for the 4* hotel this time. She is a little older now, but the hotel appears to cater for children very well.

Will report back in December!

Just to say we havent stayed at your hotel but saw it when we were in Playa Blanca. It looked very nice and there seemed to be plenty of families there. Enjoy yourself

We stayed in Costa Sal Apartments in Matagorda,
Lanzarote last year. Self catering, restaurant,
small supermarket in the grounds, washing machines, heated pool and one of the best things was that the hotel and the surroundings were made
for easy wheelchair access which made it brilliant for pushchairs! We did not have high expectations since it was very cheap, but it turned out to be very nice indeed. Matagorda is close to the airport, but still very quiet.

Costa Teguise in Lanzarote is really nice. Would recommend the OasisLanz Apts...next door is a lovely 5* hotel where they hare happy for non-residents to use the pools restaurants bars etc....also the Gran Melia Salinas in Teguise is a stunning worl class luxury hotel ... well worth strolling intop for lunch/drinks by the pool

When our dd was 6 months old we stayed in Finca Estrella near Porto de la Cruz in Tenerife (north of Tenerife). Porto de la Cruz is the second city and it has the feel of a Spanish town rather than the package nightmare in the south of the island. Finca Estrella is an old finca split into 4 apartments. The kitchen is so well equipped they have everything from blenders to juicers. The gardens are full of oranges and grapefruits which are made available for guests so we had fantastic juice every morning. Fresh bread was also left outside our room. There are two pools - both small but good for a splash around. There's a basic gym and free internet accesss. There's also a washing machine for guests use which was very useful for cleaning off the carrot purree! It was very reasonably priced. Jurgen, the owner, is incredibly helpful. There were some really good and lively restaurants within 5 minutes walk and a fantastic stately home type thing which turned into a bar/museum in the evenings (G+Ts seriously strong!). I loved the north of tenerife. Parts of it reminded me of Mexico with the old colional buildings and the tropical vegetation. Driving was easy and we could get anywhere in the island very quickly.

Forgot to say, if this sounds what you're after, let me know and I'll have a hunt for Jurgen's email address.
