Travel to New York

For dh's actual birthday (8 June) I know he would love to go to New York. I am shit scared of flying but am happy for him to go with his pal (if is pal is willing). His birthday is on a Thursday so would need to travel on the Wednesday through to Saturday (cant afford any more). Any recommendations for hotels/travel companies)

Hi, this will be our second time, we go on the 12th january. Have a look at www.airline-network.co.uk we are flying with continental, direct(no stopovers) for £340.00. For the hotels, we have stayed at the newyork helmsley on 42nd street, and this time we are staying at the doubletree guest suites. Have a look at hotels.com or just put new york hotels into a search engine. But before you book a hotel check it on www.tripadvisor because some of the cheaper ones can be a bit rough.

Doesn't continental usually =virgin as they code share?

what does code share mean? i ahve been in touch with them and we are def on a continental airplane.

Ooh no fly AA they are so much better, virgin seat pitches are tiny and seats so uncomfortable - they seem to think that by giving you a bag of crappy socks and balm that you won't notice. AA on the other hand is very spacious.

we have already booked and are flying with continental. i ahve flew virgin and they were nothing special. i have also flew aa and they were good but we didnt want stop offs and they dont do direct. continental are direct.

AA don't fly direct to NY? Of course they do!

do they? from manchester, cant believe i missed that!! i searched on aa website as well as airline-network and lots of others. we had to travel on specific dates as well, but all of the aa flights taht came up where not direct. never mind, im booked now with continental and at the end of the day it is going to get me to new york for 360.00 and the kids are going for 180.00, all in all we paid 1300.00 for 5 direct flights. leaving at 8.00am and getting there for lunch

Guess what countess? ive jsut searched again and found one!! But its £2691.00 instead of the 1300.00 weve paid, but at least i know for next time eh.cheers

Dizzy, have you stayed at the Doubletree before?

Hi, i havent stayed at the doubletree before, but a friend of mine has. she said they are really nice with the added benefit that kids have their own space, whilst still in your apartment/suite. There is also the embassysuites, which are near battery park.
