Remind me about luggage and the Eurostar

It's been a while since I travelled on Eurostar. What do they do with the luggage - is it checked in like it is on an aircraft and stowed in a separate compartment, or is it 'carry on' - i.e. do you carry your own luggage onto the train and take it into your carraige?

I ask because if the latter I shall try and concertina it into one suitcase (proving really taxing) but if the former I will throw caution to the wind and use 2 suitcases.

there are quite roomy luggage racks at either end of each carriage

Careful taking a big case - the x ray machines at Waterloo are about three foot high and the staff won't help you lug them on. Really inefficient so make sure you can actually lift your case first. I am a single mum and no-one offered to help me!!! I would have been much better off with two small cases so be warned.

Tsk! - can't believe that nobody offered to help you!! - society today eh!
