Someplace Warm, Near Spitalfields ...

Tomorrow morning, I'm doing last-minute kamakazi shopping at Spitalfields. I'm planning to just do 10am to 11 or something. Noon at the latest.

DH will drive me there, and pick me up. He'll probably keep both boys with him. Where can he take them, that they won't freeze?

Canary Wharf is the closest place I can think of, and all the shops will be closed. Tate Modern is hard work, no parking either I don't think? The Aquarium is viable, but no parking, again?

Any suggestions?

The museum of london at Docklands, just by East India Docks - park at CW and walk over the footbridge.

Fantastic for children - £5 entry for adults free for children, but the £5 covers unlimited entry for a year. Nice coffee shop and there is a younger children's play area which is good.

The shops in CW are open tomorrow as well and they possibly have a Santa too!

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten the museum of docklands. We already have tickets.

The CW shops will be open, but only from noon, I think. That's how they were last Sunday. Anyway, DH took DS1 to CW this afternoon, and I think that may have been enough for them, of that.

Aaargh! The Museum of London at Dockland's website doesn't give opening times! Grr.

Wait, found them, 10-6. That could work ... any other suggestions?

You wouldn't be too far from The Geffrye Museum just on Kingsland Road E2 (they used to run fantastic drop-in workshops for children in the holidays), or Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood. Not sure about parking for either though (it's been a while since I lived in London!).

I think that there is a very good museum at the Barbican, which is much closer to Spitalfields. Frogs recommends it very highly (or was it Binkie - can't remember, but someone did).

Or he could just take them to McDonalds in Liverpool St, if that's not anathema (suspect it might be, though).

The Museum of London is in the Barbican - fantastic place, especially the Roman bit.

dinosaur, you're right about McDs being anathema. Um, neither of the boys has ever been. I'm in no hurry to change that!

I don't know where he took them, finally. Shopping, I think?

The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green is closed for renovations, until at least the summer. Geffreys might have worked. The Museum of London only opens at noon on Sundays, so no use for this gap.
