Hotels in Santa Monica

Hello. We're going to California for 10 days over half term and I need to book our first 2 nights in LA. We thought Santa Monica would be good (we have four children 6,6 9 and 11). But the hotels seem very expensive and reviews on tripadvisor are good but extremely varied. Anyone stayed anywhere that they would recommend. Would love some help.

We only went here for brunch this June - georgianhotel.com/ - but it was really lovely and is right on the beach by the pier and main shopping area is just behind it.

Hi timbuktutu. It is a bit out of our budget, but thank you

Santa Monica hotels will all be expensive. There's just no getting around it. We usually stay at the Loews but it's over $200/night and everything costs extra - i.e. valet parking, breakfast is big $$, etc. Even the Holiday Inn is very pricey. We had planned to go back to visit with family for Thanksgiving and I just couldn't face the prices in Santa Monica. I had decided to go here:

Free parking, free breakfast, free wifi, etc. Having said all that, even with a suite, you may have to get 2 rooms because there are 6 of you (I'm presuming your DH/DP is going too Smile).

Turns out we're not going for Thanksgiving but next time we head to LA it will be at the top of my list.

If a place is really, really cheap there is definitely a reason.

Thank you. I'm now trying to get deals on Disneyland!

Just remembered from my own research this motel in Santa Monica www.seashoremotel.com/Rates.htm - gets good reviews.

At disneyland we stayed at www.hojoanaheim.com/ which is a 5 min walk from the entrance and has a swimming pool and a water park, would really recommend it.

We have stayed in LA a few times on holiday with our children. Santa Monica - we stayed at the Sheraton which isn't far from the beach.

We found Santa Monica great for the beach etc but just a little far from Disneyland.

We have also stayed at the Beverly Hilton - lovely hotel and good location wise between, Santa Monica and Universal Studios. Still a journey to Anaheim.

We found Anaheim the best location - our children want to go to Disney and California Adventure a lot so we stayed here. It's easier to get out and about to Orange County and San Diego too from here.

I've also stayed here years ago. But it was too much for my liking, so tend to avoid Disney hotels:

I stayed at the Sheraton Delfina a few years ago and wouldn't recommend it at all. The hotel looks fine cosmetically, but is poorly maintained. While I was staying there the balcony railings sheared off, taking 2 of my colleagues crashing onto the balcony below. Thankfully they escaped with cuts and bruises, but it could have been tragic. I would never stay there with children.

Nancerama - that's dreadful. We stayed there in 2002 so it was a while ago! The main reason, at the time, we opted for it rather than the Georgian was the swimming pool. I'll strike that off my list for sure!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Santa Monica a long time ago but would stay there again as the location is great - a couple blocks from the Pier and walkable to everywhere you want to go to there, and the reviews are still good. And its reasonably priced for its location.
