Is it possible to book very last minute in the summer holidays and get a lot of money off a family holiday abroad?

Im so desperate to save up for a family holiday next summer holidays. Im fed up with getting soaked in the tent in this country, and the kids are now old enough to make plane travel not a living nightmare.

I am saving, very gradually, but we are on a tight budget....Im thinking I might be able to save at worst £600 and maybe a bit more by august next year, at a push. Looking at the travel agent websites, I'm doubtful this will be enough for a family holiday somewhere in Europe.

Does anyone know how much you might get off if you book very last minute? I would loveto be able to afford a ten night break, I dont care where it is really, as long as it's not somewhere hideously nightclubby full of stag and hen parties. Dont mind self catering...and would like to be somewhere with a nice beach.

Anyone booked at the last minute or found a way to get a really cheap holiday abroad?

I'm sorry but I don't think you could get any kind of package holiday for that sort of money. Perhaps camping abroad?
They really don't knock that much off last minute, esp in school hols.

we have found better deals along way in advance (looking now for next summer) the couple of times we have tried to leave until last min we have ended up camping in the uk, fun but not hot:)

agree, think about camping abroad. some people use tesco vouchers for the tunnel. Or maybe a house swap (never done this myself). not sure if its still the case, but i noticed that flights to germany were very cheap. do you have to go in august...what about doing may half term and a week out of school? rates are normally double in august.

for 600 you are talking about 75% off at least...... its more than the cost of the flights alone that we normally book.

We have been on eurocamp holidays with the kids for the past two years and loved it. Ferry from hull, stay in a mobile home it works out alot cheaper than package holidays.
We went to a campsite in holland called duinrell, fab for kids and the beach was a 15 min walk away.

Hope this helps

For £600 you need to be looking at May half term, or, even better, October half-term. You might get a week then for £300 per adult, but you would need free children's places.

What will you do about spending money? It is not cheap in Europe at the moment?
