DH all packed for business trip. Stops for petrol. Few minutes down road gets a flat. Gets out to get pump from boot and is pushed over, bag stolen from boot & car speeds off with no lights on

I am so . He has spent weeks preparing a presentation which is on computer, with back up in same case. He is rather shaken up. Nice suit all muddy. Can't fly anywhere now - no passport or ticket!

Now to wait for police.

At least he won't be away in run up to Christmas though.

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

He was M4 junction 12-11.

He is ok but angry & shaken.

wonder if the people did something to his tyres at the petrol garage??

MerryWays · 13/12/2005 19:02

I think so. If police ever turn up will ask them to check CCTV. This is a common crime in Europe for tourists, and if they saw all luggage in back of estate it all adds up.

They will get the Korean money & think themselves millionaires.

How awful! And seems very violent for what is really a fairly opportunistic crime. How could they have known he had a computer in the boot?

Hope the police are helpful, and hope you & dh are doing okay.

MerryWays · 13/12/2005 19:10

Computer bag!

Police obviously too busy tonight. Not serious enough. Makes you sooo cross!

But how could they know he had it in the boot, that's my point. Obv am aware that a computer in a bag is quite obvious, I have to carry my laptop to and from work every day (most annoying).

I'm not surprised that the police response is lacklustre, just glad your dh wasn't hurt.

Janh · 13/12/2005 22:01

Maybe they think everybody in a suit has a laptop in the car these days. Horrible for you both, mw - glad he is only shaken, not hurt.

moondog · 13/12/2005 22:07

OMG merryways!!!

How dreadful for him (and you).
Thank God he wasn't hurt.

MerryWays · 13/12/2005 22:25

Apparantly the boot was left open whilst he was playing with tyre at front of car, so bags on full display (probably lit by internal light).

If they tampered with car at garage, bags were in estate boot so computer bag obvious.

The police have been. There main concern was distinction between Theft & Robbery (for stats) and exaactly where on motorway (whose patch/figures)! They will check garage CCTV but think pure opportunism.

God the number of times I have dreamt of that happening to DH when he was bu**ering off on another long trip

However, I can imagine when it does happen it is a damn site more distressing than you imagine!

Hope all is okay - could he do his presentation by video conference instead????
