Hi girls, I live in Glasgow and I'd like to take ds's ages 4 and 7 to Edinburger during the Xmas hols. Can anyone recommend a cheap place we could stay overnight that would do for the kids as I'd like to take them to the attractions and not have to face the M8 in the dark. Also what attractions do you recommend for one day only, okay if we stay maybe 2 days? It's really just Xmas-y things, we've been to dynamic earth and the zoo and Portobello. Are there any nice but child friendly restaurants? We've got a tight budget so any recomendations would be appreciated!

cheers, ssd xxx

Not sure about places to stay but the whole Xmas fair area in Princes St gardens is fab - ice rink, big wheel, lots of food & stalls. You could take in a panto too, the King's theatre one is usually good fun.

The official website is here , and covers pretty much everything Christmassy. I don't know about places to stay really- there's a B and B near us and the owners are very nice, website here . They don't seem to have family rooms, but they do have children so they might be able to help, I guess?

Can't think of any specifically child-friendly restaurants but there are several branches of Pizza Express!

hi tatum, thanks for answering!

We'll probably not be staying a night now - too skint!! I looked at the website and I wondered if you knew if most things on it are on Princes St? We've got boys age 4 and 7 and I like the sound of santa's reindeer garden, have you seen this?

Hi I think most things are on Princes St or nearby- there's a market in the Grassmarket, but the ice rink and stuff are all in Princes St gardens. So is the reindeer garden. I'm really sorry, I haven't seen it- mine are 7 and 11 and although they probably would like it I just haven't got my act together yet. If you click on the events link you can then click on each thing and it will tell you where it takes place. Some of it has already happened but most of the good stuff is on all the time. Don't forget Jenners Christmas tree either, even if it is fake!

ssd, I saw the Reindeer thing at a distance today- it looks lovely all lit up in the dark, very magical. I would definitely aim to see it after the sun has gone down.

P.S. Don't worry about the name, happens all the time

thanks, we'll probably stay till it gets dark!
