It's a long shot, I know... but the ones on the Web I've seen are v. pricey. Has anyone used a rental agency in Del Mar ? Does anyone have a contact to someone who rents out apartments there ?

We stayed here in 2002:

Fab accomodation/location/facilites

www.cyberrentals.com/USA/California/San-Diego-County/vacation-condo-Del-Mar/p106721.htm

There are other properties listed on Cyber rentals in Del Mar if this is not avaliable or suitable - owner was lovely - may be able to help find something too - the pool was divine

It will be pricey hub2dee (sorry)!
Not long ago my dad was telling me that San Diego (County) has the most expensive hotel/holiday accomodation in the USA, btw.

I know a reputable company who rents out in PB, La Jolla, but sadly not DM.

Thanks so much, fimac, for that link, I'll enquire about some of the properties on that site.

Too right about the price zebratwizzler, but it is an expensive area as you know. It's just gonna be us plus the baby so a small place would be fine, and we'll probably be out and about for much of the time as my cousin lives in Del Mar...

I'll keep looking. One of the things I'm trying to get my head around is whether we should book just a few weeks, and then look for another place, or book one place for a month and do excursions from there, or maybe even visit a few other places in California instead of staying put...

dd will be 5 1/2 months old, so I don't really want her sitting in a car all day IYSWIM (otherwise a slow Big Sur trip would have been fun)...

Hub2Dee

You will get a better rate if you book for a month (obviously) try negotiating on the rate as I would think that would be fairly low season

Good luck - Del Mar is a good choice in San Deigo

We rented an apartment in Miami last Feb from these
www.vacationhomes.com/
It was ideal - and the price was good too.

You may prefer to have an agency who can vouch for what you're getting, but many Americans use craigslist as their main source of listings for most everything. In fact, there are news stories about how craigslist may render classified ads obsolete.

I'm crap at links, but you can google it and see what you think.

Will look at Craig's list. Thanks for the link MaggieW and I will hustle a little before signing, fimac1, LOL.

I think we are also going to Vegas for a few days in the New Year too. I fear it may be my idea of hell, but dw says it's a blast, LOL.

Hub - DH and I lived in SD for a year in 2000 and were back out there on holiday last November. May be able to dredge up some info about a couple of things if there's anything you wonder about. SD is fab and you, dw and the lovely Camille will really enjoy it. Great shops, too!

hub2dee · 04/12/2005 09:52

xmasspub, please don't go digging in the archives, but I'd appareciate a mention of anything you found particularly wonderful, or any outlying places which you visited you felt were particularly worthwhile.

We've been there before, so the zoo and Seawolrd are known to us, and that big battleship thingy in the harbour, lamp district downtown etc... but other stuff would be good to know about !

H2D - will dredge up more biy off the top of my head - Wild Animal park is fab, Legoland at Carlsbad also great - tho the baby might be a bit small to enjoy it!
Balboa Park is a fun place to wander around and they have loads of different stuff on. Tijuana is a dump but Ensenada is quite nice if you get down to Baja Mexico. I think in Jan/Feb you can go whale watching in SD, too and that's fab.
More to follow...

Thank you ! Yes, dd will be just 5 1/2 months when we leave, so most stuff will go over her head, so to speak, but it's good to know abou the possibilities !

Thanks.
