Holiday in France

dd 10 would like to go to France this summer. We would go by train. Thinking of Aix-en-Provence or Montpellier or Paris. NB am single mum and a bit daunted by idea but determined for dd to have a lovely holiday. Have any of you been to these places? Any other recommendations of good destinations by train? Thanks.

Paris is a great destination by train, really easy, most Parisians will try to understand basic school french and then help in English. It's easy to find your way around, buy a copy of the Lonely planet guide and choose one thing each day to do. We travel extensively in France and anywhere you go will good. But Paris has good public transport, which is not true of everywhere else.

We get the eurostar straight to avignon in the summer, runs every saturday and takes about 5/6 hours.

This year we went earlier in the year, so got the eurostar to paris then the TGV to avignon, lovely relaxed train journey, much nicer than flying

pm me if you need any details.

Aix en Provence is a lovely town, I've been there a couple of times. The journey by train is fine, the high speed railway goes there directly. It's best if you change in Lille where it's a cross platform transfer, rather than change in Paris where you will need to cross the city from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. The journey will take about 6h30.
