Cruising with small children

We have just returned from our first cruise with P & O, which was a great success. It was an adults only cruise, but we spoke to lots of people on board who had taken their children/grandchildren cruising and they had loved it.

We are hoping to take our son, dil and two grandsons (6 and 2) on holiday next year (will have to be August).

Can anyone recommend any cruise lines/ships which are particularly good for children. What sort of itinerary would be best? Would it be best to go for a large ship (more children for them to play with)? Any tips gratefully received.

Watching this with interest. We have cruised many times but we decided it's a no no with two children under 5 but we're desperate to cruise again.

It's the sea days that worry me. Nowhere to run around and pools that are rammed with teenagers etc.

I do know that most cruise liners won't accept children in pools who aren't potty trained, even in protective swim nappys.
