Hi mel,
We have been to WDW/ Orlando 5 times, three times staying in the All Star Movies hotel, and twice with a friend who lives there.
If you are on a budget and want to stay inside WDW, the All Stars hotels are fine, and located close to Animal Kingdom Park and Blizzard Beach waterpark. The furthest park is the Magic Kingdom which took about 20 mins on the Disney bus from the All Star Movies.
Our boys loved the ASM as it is a very Disneyfied hotel, with huge statues of Disney Characters outside the room blocks. Blocks are either Fantasia, Toy Story, 101 Dalmations, Herbie or Mighty Ducks.
The rooms are on 3 floors, with a running balcony along the 2nd and 3rd floors. Fantasia blocks are either side of the main pool, which was very nice with sunbeds and tables around the perimeter. Toy Story and 101 Dalmation blocks are either side of those. Herbie blocks are at the back, so further from reception, food courts and Disney shuttle buses. Mighty Ducks is to the far right, and is actually nearer to the next All Stars hotels ( Music or Sports ). There is another smaller pool by Mighty Ducks, or you can use the pools in the other All Stars hotels for a change.
We bought Disney plastic mugs with lids on arrival, and could fill them with free drinks in the foodcourt, until late at night. You can also use them again on future holidays! The foodcourt had various choices of foods, including breakfasts, pizza and pasta, Mexican, Chinese, American burgers etc, and more English foods. It may have changed a bit since we last stayed there, but you can read current reviews on Trip Advisor, and see Travellers photos.
Therer are labelled bus stops outside the front of the hotel for the free Disney shuttle buses to the 4 Disney theme parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon waterparks, and Downtown Disney.
We did not want to hire a car, so we used taxis from outside the hotel to visit the other theme parks outside WDW. Coming back, it saved some money to take the taxi to Downtown Disney, then the Disney bus back to the ASM.
The room had 2 double beds, chairs and table, TV unit with drawers, hanging rail, and a sink unit outside the bathroom ( bath, shower, loo ). Not huge, but fine for a family of 4 who are out all day!
Some of the other resort hotels look lovely, but to be honest we would never have spent enough time in them to be worth the extra cost.
People on the Trip Advisor WDW and Orlando forums can give you lots of help and advice with planning a holiday there.
Hope you have a fabulous time - we always have!!
