N Wales Beaches

We will be spending quite a lot of time in Llanberis this summer.
DS (nearly 3) is mad keen on beaches (he thinks, we hardly ever go as we are in land locked W Yorks) . In the past we have always gone to Newborough Sands on Anglessey, but it is a long old way from Llanberis.

Can anyone recommend any nice family beaches on the N Wales coast/south Anglessey?

It'd be about an hour away, so probably too far for you, but Abersoch is really lovely. Well worth the journey.

Hmm, have been thinking about Aberscoch, but just as far as Newborough!

Not sure if it's too far for you, but Harlech is absolutely wonderful. No facilities apart from an ice cream van in the car park, so if you want bells and whistles it isn't the place for you. And it's a ten minute walk to the beach from the car park. But it is enormous, beautiful, with lovely sand and is usually very, very quiet.

Dinas Dinlle, or Black Rock sands about 30/40 min away

Criccieth is ok, easy parking, rockpools, overlooked by castle, not too far.

BUT, I would go to Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) which is further on but is so worth it.

I rcently visited Portmerion. I would recommend a day out here. Lovely interesting village and fantastic beach.

You pay quite a bit to get into Portmerion though. Is there a beach? Gosh, we didn't notice.

I, and dd2, thought the whole place was creepy.

Morfa nefyn is gorgeous

pointydog · 16/07/2011 17:29

We really liked Porth darfarch beach on Anglesey. Lovely sand, sheltered bay, good paddling (swim if you want), rock pools, toilet up at the top and ice cream van.

pointydog · 16/07/2011 17:51

And lucky you, spending time in Llanberis

orienteerer · 16/07/2011 20:02

Porth Dinllaen or Abersoch
