Anyone been? What's it like? DH likes lazing in the sunshine and I like history. Rhodes Town sounds like it should keep us both happy. Am I right?

There's no beach actually in Rhodes town, the nearest beach is probably iIxia, hotels galore but that has a main road literally running right through it. Also it's on the west coast so to face the sun all the sunbeds lie facing the road. as per this photo

It's not a huge island so to get about is not a problem.

Elli beach is in town (casino/aquarium way)

oops sorry joydivision Blush

Blimey stilla - I obviously never knew that. Blush - does it meet up to Ixia beach? Maybe thats why I was confused.

Yes it merges into that bit of beach as you go into town and then eventually into Ixia . Not the nicest beaches on the island though .

where is the best place to park when visiting rhodes town? Looks like the sort of place my history mad teenager would love but i've heard that parking is a nightmare and my husband gets a bit stressy about it.

We used to park over by the windmills near the taxi rank at Mandraki if taking the car - although living in Trianda we mostly got the bus in .
