Florida question about where to stay while driving from Miami to Captiva/Sanibel

We fly into Miami and will stay at hotel by airport. We then have next night free. Then have a week on Captiva. Trying to decide what to do that one night.

Miami? DH not keen. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Everglades will be horrible in July I think?

DH is suggesting Naples.

Any suggestions?

We are doing beach and the Orlando thing so don't need anything like that.

No specific recommendations, but in your situation, I'd peruse the TripAdvisor site for hotel advice.

I did that when we went to Disney in California (and I didn't want to pay the exorbitant 'in park' hotel prices). I spent about an hour reading reviews of hotels on TripAdvisor and was very happy with my choice.

Earlybird - I find Trip Advisor a nightmare!!! I find a hotel. It may have hundreds of good reviews and one bad one (and lets face it they all get a bad one!) and it will put me off.

But I will try.

We have all our other accommodation booked and I did look at Trip Advisor briefly but knew I would end up booking nothing if I looked for long!
