A family holiday with purpose

I'm looking for a holiday with DH, DD, 8 and DS,6. We would like to do something different, maybe helping a community or being part of a restoration project. Something active that would involve grown-ups and let the kids help or run around in a safe environment. Any ideas?
THANKS!

You sound very idealistic.
have you considered habitat for humanity. They build houses for people. Not sure if there is a website, there should be.
Me and DD did it once in Koh Lanta after the Tsunami. It was arranged by DHs school in Thailand.

Have you thought about doing the John Muir Discovery Award with the Family. There is a course being held at the FSC Nettlecombe Court centre www.field-studies-council.org/nettlecombecourt/ on Exmoor from the 1st - 5th August. This is ideal for children from 6 - 12 years and the kids and you get an award at the end. www.jmt.org/jmaward-home.asp

The course is being offered at £20 per family, you may be able to stay at the centre.
