Anyone been to Arcachon? Is it nice?

Looking for somewhere new to try in France with a good beach but also shops and activities. Have always vaguely fancied Arcachon.. grateful for any thoughts.

I stayed there a couple of years ago with friends. The bay is stunning. We didn't have any children with us at the time so can't talk about family-friendly stuff but there are some fabulous restaurants.

i holidayed there as a kid and loved it. the sand dunes are good.
