Playa Blanca Lanzarote

We're thinking of going here next February with our DD who will be 15 months. Has anyone been? We just want somewhere quiet and family friendly, handy for walking everywhere as don't want to hire a car if possible. Would love any advice! Or anywhere else in the Canaries that isn't noisy, horrible and full of shouty - sorry I'm going to say it - chavs. SHOOT ME NOW.

We have been twice,both times in rented villas with pools and really enjoyed it.
Nice little town with long promenade and loads of shops/cafes/restaurants etc all family friendly.
Will prob go again next year.

we agree with above post: been there several times You can also take the ferry over to Fuerteventura from there which is also v nice if you like sand dunes etc or just a nice boat trip PB is a little warmer than the rest of the island so you should have some nice swimming weather too though the Canaries are all good in February usually . Recommend it

also agree with the above ,we have been going every year 2/3 times a year for the past 7 years ,its lovely ,if you would like any tips on anything just ask

Went last August to Playa Blanca, with dp and our 2 dds we loved it, dd1 cried when we came back, we had a fab time and will deffo go back at some point

NB be sure to take full medical insurance as Canaries not strictly speaking in the Eu . They have first class hospitals etc but you do need private cover

@Mel38 I would love some more tips if you get a chance, especially for good places to stay. A private villa or apartment would be great though. Is the taxi journey from the airport really expensive or ok?

Hi Blackswan, we stayed in Playa Blanca in Feb 2011, we booked private villa and hired a car- think it was about 20 euros more than return taxi fare and really nice to be able to do a bit of sighteseeing- and easy for supermarket shopping!.

Playa Blanca was easily walklable, no chavs, clean, pretty- totally unlike the rest of the Canaries (unfortunatly!) its the only resort I'd return to.

The best hotel was (obv) Princess Yaiza, if you are loaded! Otherwise having a villa was good. We stayed at Las Brisas villa complex (v central).

Best beach for kids IMO was Playa Flamingo, it had lovely soft sand, calm sea (lagoon). We wished we had stayed at Flamingo Beach Resort (its called Blue Village and is a Scandi resort in winter but that wouldnt have bothered us tbh) as it was right by this beach and had lots of kids activities that my DS (then 3) would have loved.

Theres a really good pizza resteraunt just set back from the main town beach too.

We love Lanzarote (been twice) and Playa Blanca is fab for families. The promenade goes for miles and means you can let your children walk without worrying about traffic and/or you can go for a long stroll while baby sleeps in buggy.

We stayed at Princess Yaiza. If it is in your price range it is fabulous - best breakfast buffet we've ever had, wonderful all-suite rooms so children can sleep in the bedroom while you watch tv in peace in sitting room, very very child friendly, right by a lovely beach and short walk to main restaurant areas.

The island is lovely and very easy/quick to get round by car so it is worth hiring a car, honest. Cars are usually cheap in the Canaries - we can highly recommend CICAR (cicar.com/en) who we've used twice. Honourable mentions to the cactus garden and the other Cesar Manrique places and to Famara with its amazing cliffs and a wonderful restaurant on the seafront (I think the only restaurant there so not hard to find, but called something like El Sol!)

the childrens club next to the princess yaiza, Kikoland, has great facilities for babies and young children - there is a fee if you are not staying at PY though. we stayed at the Dream Gran Castillo at the end of the boardwalk (AI and very good value compared to the PY) also has rooms that have a divided 'lounge' area.

We went to playa blanca with our then 11 month old in April and had a brilliant time. We hired a car as it was e20 more than a private transfer. We stayed at the cay beach which is basic but fine and the baby pool was heated which was perfect for us.

Thanks everyone - holiday is now booked and we're staying at Las Brisas which has a small heated pool for kids. Can't wait. Your advice has been invaluable. Buying you all a virtual drink to say cheers
