car seat for 14month old on plane! Hold or cabin????

we are going to Cyprus and have just paid for a seat for our 14month old as he is a fidgit and thought would make our journey more comfortable.
Has anyone had experience of flying with car seat. Did you put in hold or use on plane? Which is best in your opinion? Did read on here somewhere that maybe lap for take off etc and allow child to sit between adults on seat for rest of flight?
Any advice gratefully received

Ask the airline if your car seat will be compatible with the plane seats. If you can't use it on the plane then it has to go in the hold - look for a 'Sunshine Kids Car Seat Bag' on Amazon.

For take off etc they will need to be strapped onto one of you with a lap belt.

If you buy a seat then be aware that the adult seat belt will be too loose for them, so they would be un-restrained when sitting on the middle seat. There is something called a 'Cares Harness' that can be bought and is legally recognised by airlines as a child restraint, but I am not sure if it would fit a 14 month old. ALso a 'Baby B'Air' Flight vest - but that is a sort of alternative to a lap belt.

We took ours on the plane, our DS is a fidget too! Worked well, but they have to out it next to the window due to safety issues so be prepared to lose your view!
