Ideas for a 40th birthday weekend

It's my 40th in August and I'm looking to book a few days away with my hubbie and DS (aged 3). Not sure whether to stay in UK or go on a European city break. Any ideas/recommendations?

Paris!!! Eurostar makes it perfect for a weekend away without the hassle of an airport, and you'll not be short of things to do and see, plus it's the most beautiful city!

Hey, August is my 40th! Grin I wish I was planning a European weekend break, but my parents will only look after my 3 DCs for a night, so Derbyshire it is.

But if I could get away further, it would be Scandinavia - Oslo is lovely (v pricey so we stayed in a rented apartment) and would love to see Copenhagen and Stockholm. I think Stockholm has lots of little islands around it so would be lovely to do city things then escape out to an island for a bit of fresh air for a night or two.

I wouldn't mind a European city break type weekend, but personally I love Edinburgh so I'd want to go there (if I could go back in time to my 40th!).
